It was announced that as of last month, Disney will no longer issue stock certificates in paper form.
It appears that more and more companies will follow suit and not issue paper certificates. That seems to be the trend for everything . . . .no paper.
We too, are following the trend.
For our clients, they now have the option to opt out of “paper”, or as its said, “go paperless”. You can opt out of a postal delivery of your statements, trade confirmations, tax forms, and prospectuses (those thick books that arrive on an annual basis). Instead of receiving these in paper form, they can be e-mailed to you. You then can print them off, or most folks, file them on their hard drive, or on a disk. Its easy to find later if needed. It saves paper filing. and it saves the printing of paper.
The New LPL Financial Account View
Also, we just launched, on September 9th, a state-of-the-art portal for clients to access their accounts online. The new “account view” is user-friendly and provides everything from balances and asset allocation to viewing statements. From this site, clients can choose to “go green” by clicking on the various paperless choices.
Going paperless is not only good for the environment, but can also be easier for you
Our office is generating less and less paper. Files are moving towards e-filing. Applications and forms can be signed with an e-signature which is an e-mailing of the documents to clients. They then return it via e-mail. This saves time and money, and it provides a copy of your signed documents for you to have in the clients e-filing. They can refer to the document at a later time, if needed.
In fact, we’re so committed to moving to a “paperless” office that for most accounts, we no longer accept a check. Yes, you can write out a check to make a deposit to your account. Please, don’t misunderstand us. However, when you hand us a check, we take an image of it, and hand it right back. That’s right! We don’t need the check once we copied it. Again, no paper.
It’s a big change for a lot of folks, and our office is included. We’re working our way through the upgraded service and the new technology. The plan is to save time and money . . . . . and trees.
